Indian and desi grocery in Dresden
Tukwila Supermarket sits in Dresden's Äußere Neustadt at Bautzner Straße 16, 01099 Dresden, and is open Monday to Saturday from 10:30 to 20:00. If you have been hunting for an Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi shop in Dresden, this is where students, families and restaurant cooks pick up the things a German supermarket rarely carries: big bags of basmati, chakki atta, kasoori methi, curry leaves and proper garam masala.
The fresh counter is a big draw. Expect okra, bitter gourd, parwal, lauki, arbi and drumsticks, plus bunches of coriander, mint and fiery green chillies. Boxes of gulab jamun, kaju katli and laddu sit in the chiller, while the freezers hold hilsa, rohu and golda prawns. Fresh halal meat is cut to order, which our halal shop page explains.
Can't make it to the Neustadt? The whole range of around 1,100 products is online too, sent anywhere in Germany with GLS through our online desi grocery.
Making the most of a visit
- Fresh vegetables: okra, parwal and lauki go quickly, so later in the day the choice can be smaller. Just ask at the till.
- Halal meat: goat, lamb, beef and chicken are ordered in advance by WhatsApp, cut to order and ready for you to collect.
- Heavy items: 10 kg rice sacks, atta and big tins of oil add up. Bring a trolley bag or the car, or order the heavy bits online and carry home only the fresh things.
- Browsing spices: the spices and masala aisle groups Shan and Radhuni mixes side by side, so comparing recipe packs is easy.
