Buying paneer: pack contents, chilling and recipe plans

2 min read · Updated 2026-10-28

A fresh white paneer block with a few cubes

Paneer shopping needs a recipe quantity and a storage plan. Compare net contents, block or cubes, milk ingredients and the chilled or frozen format of the actual product.

Choose the format the recipe expects

Paneer is a dairy ingredient sold in different pack sizes and formats. A block gives you control over the cut size; prepared cubes save a cutting step. Neither format guarantees that all brands have identical ingredients, texture or storage needs.

Read whether the product is chilled or frozen. Do not plan an ambient cupboard delivery around a picture of cheese. Check the shop's current delivery availability for the actual item before placing an order.

Calculate from the usable net contents

If a recipe requires 300 g and your selected block contains 500 g, plan the remaining 200 g before opening it. That remainder is an arithmetic example, not a suggested portion size. Choose another smaller pack if there is no realistic second use within the product's storage instructions.

For cubes, compare declared weight rather than assuming a picture shows the piece count. A manufacturer may sell large catering formats as well as household blocks; confirm which size the product page offers.

Keep ingredient checks specific

Paneer should not be presumed suitable for a milk allergy. Read the ingredient and allergen information on the actual pack. Do not transfer one producer's vegetarian declaration or storage period to another product just because both are called paneer.

Keep the product at its labelled temperature and refrigerate chilled food promptly. Use clean equipment and separate it from raw meat preparation. Follow any use-after-opening instructions rather than keeping an opened block until its unopened date.

Complete the dish before the basket

List the sauce ingredients, vegetables and rice or bread your recipe needs. Check whether a spice mix expects additional dairy or seasonings. For bread, browse naan and chapati; for seasoning, browse curry mixes. The product cards show current options, while the packet remains the source for the delivered paneer's exact handling instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Does a block and a cube pack need the same storage?

Check each product separately. Format alone does not establish storage temperature or an opening period.
