Halal goat meat and lamb

In South Asian kitchens "mutton" usually means goat – khashir mangsho in Bengali, bakra ka gosht in Urdu and Hindi – and it is surprisingly hard to find in a German supermarket. Tukwila sells halal goat meat as mixed curry pieces, leg, shoulder, ribs, neck and grill chops, along with liver, fat, head with brain and small trotters (paya) for slow-cooked soups.

If you prefer sheep, there is leg and shoulder of lamb (bher ka gosht) too. Fresh meat is cut to order and ordered by WhatsApp, which is handy when a kacchi biryani needs large bone-in chunks and a korma calls for smaller, even cubes.

For a proper weekend feast, pair it with one of our biryani masalas or a haleem mix. You'll find collection details and more about fresh meat on our halal shop Dresden page.

Cooking goat meat the desi way

Goat is leaner and firmer than lamb, so it rewards patience. A classic mutton curry needs 1.5–2 hours over a low flame, or roughly 25–35 minutes in a pressure cooker.

  • Which cut? Mixed curry pieces and ribs for kosha mangsho and karahi, leg for biryani and roasts, neck for nihari, chops for the grill.
  • Marinade: yoghurt, ginger-garlic paste, a little raw papaya or lemon and salt, for at least two hours or overnight.
  • Don't skip the bhuna: fry the meat with onions and spices until the oil separates before adding any water.

Planning for Eid ul-Adha or a family gathering? Send your WhatsApp order early. The spices you'll need are all in our spices and masala range.

Frequently asked questions

Is mutton goat or sheep?

In India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, mutton almost always means goat. In Britain and Germany it traditionally refers to meat from older sheep. We sell both, clearly labelled as desi goat meat or lamb, so you know exactly what you are getting.

Which goat cut works for kacchi biryani?

Go for large bone-in pieces from the leg or shoulder. In a kacchi biryani the raw marinated meat cooks together with the rice, so even chunks matter. Just mention it's for biryani when you send your WhatsApp order.

How long does goat meat take to cook?

Allow around 1.5 to 2 hours in an ordinary pot over low heat, until the meat comes away from the bone. A pressure cooker usually needs 25 to 35 minutes. Trotters and neck for paya or nihari take considerably longer.

Can I pre-order goat meat?

Yes. Message us on WhatsApp with the cuts and quantity you need, and we'll cut the fresh meat to order. Before Eid and big family events it's worth getting in touch early so we can plan your order.
