One dal shop, three meal ideas
Plan several different meals around dal, rice or atta and a few carefully chosen additions.
Choose the meals before the pack sizes
Decide what you actually want to cook before shopping. A dal dish, a rice side and a vegetable dish often share onions, tomatoes and spices. Planning around those ingredients helps you shop with a purpose without building an entirely new pantry for every evening.
First evening: dal and rice
Choose a pulse such as toor dal and a rice your household enjoys. Prepare both according to the pack guidance and your chosen recipe. Serve vegetables separately and offer extra chilli at the table.
Second evening: dal and roti
A different accompaniment changes the meal. Use chapatti atta for fresh flatbreads and plan a separate portion of dal for this evening. If you want to use food prepared ahead, follow appropriate cooling and safe storage guidance.
Third evening: a small shared spread
Cook vegetables in a style you like, then add a smaller portion of dal, bread and a dip. Fresh herbs can tie the dishes together at the table. This does not need a second long shopping list.
Your shopping list
- One dal product and rice or atta
- Onions, tomatoes and your preferred vegetables
- The spices in your chosen recipe
- Optional fresh herbs and an accompaniment
Check what you already have first. Choose pack sizes around consumption and storage space, rather than simply the largest bag. Current pack sizes, unit prices and delivery charges appear on the product and in your basket.
